Soccer Analyst Sutton Battles Singer Murs in Top Flight Forecasts
The Gunners' ten-match victorious streak came to an end by Sunderland before the global break, but can the Premier League frontrunners bounce back against local foes Spurs this Sunday?
"{I feel like Arsenal are miles ahead of Tottenham at the moment but Spurs boss Thomas Frank will have a strategy for this match," remarked soccer specialist Chris Sutton.
"Frank will try to nullify Arsenal, who have not always been at their scintillating best this season - but Mikel Arteta's team usually still manage to win."
The analyst is making predictions for all 380 Premier League games this season, against artificial intelligence, readers and a range of guests.
For the twelfth round, he takes on singer Olly Murs, who is a United fan.
Murs' new album, Knees Up, is out on the weekend.
Soccer and Family Experiences
Murs is a talented soccer player as well as a successful singer and has been a star of several Soccer Aid games over time - but he is not intending a serious return as a footballer.
"{I actually played in a charity match the other night for a friend of mine," he said. "The team was losing 3-1 when I came off in the 60th minute, and they went on to win 4-3, so you can read into that what you want!
"I still love football, but I hurt my joint a few years ago and it even now hasn't fully recovered. I wish I could play more but the uncertainty of the game means it's too risky for me in my career to do it seriously again.
"Plus I am 41 now, and we are not all Cristiano Ronaldo, are we!? No, I am very happy not playing football and I am preparing for the moment that my daughter or son chooses to play instead."
Murs and his wife Amelia Tank have two children, Madison and their son, and he is prepared to follow in his father's footsteps by taking on the role of their manager.
"I won't push football on our children but I've previously told Amelia that if they happen to get the passion for it then I will have to go and get my manager qualifications - and I will probably be managing their Saturday football team," he said.
"I watched my relatives play a lot, and I really got into it, and I clearly was involved with a football club for a period too.
"My dad coached with us when I was a kid, which is probably where I get it from. He coached our team for two or three seasons and had a wonderful time with it. That might be the future for me as well, and I am looking forward to it!"
Premier League Forecasts
Weekend, 22 November
- Turf Moor, 12:30 GMT
The Blues might have to be patient for Cole Palmer's comeback from injury but their attack is now more potent with Pedro and Delap both back fit.
In my opinion this game will be quite tight, though. Burnley are well organised and their only at Turf Moor losses so far have been against Liverpool and Arsenal.
It suggests a 1-1 draw to me, but I am actually going to go with the London side to edge it for what would be their third consecutive league win in a row.
The expert's forecast: 1-2
Olly's pick: The Blues will be superior. 1-3
AI's prediction: 0-2
- Vitality Stadium, 15:00 GMT
The Cherries have been defeated in their past two matches - albeit both of them were away - but they got thoroughly beaten by Aston Villa last time out which surprised me.
In contrast, West Ham won back-to-back victories before the international break and, although both of those fixtures were at home, they do look strong again.
The Hammers' sole on the road victory this campaign came at Nottingham Forest in August, when West Ham manager Nuno was previously Forest coach.
Therefore, what on earth do I go with here - can West Ham continuing their run under their manager, or Bournemouth bouncing back?
I will go with the Cherries, because I think what occurred against Villa was a blip.
The pundit's forecast: 2-0
Olly's outlook: Bournemouth are doing well but the visitors have improved under their boss. 2-2
AI's pick: 1-1
- Amex Stadium, 15:00 GMT
The Bees were seen as one of the frontrunners for the drop before the campaign started, but they have impressed a few observers under Keith Andrews and are in good form with three wins in their past four matches.
My son told me to select Bees striker Igor Thiago in my Fantasy Football team a few weeks back and, unfortunately, I didn't listen.
Thiago will likely score again on the weekend but I am still not going to select him or back the away side at Brighton's ground.
They have not had great success on the travel this term, and the Seagulls are consistently decent at their stadium. Brentford will try to hit them on the counter-attack but I feel Fabian Hurzeler's side pose much more of a danger.
The analyst's forecast: 2-1
Olly's prediction: This could be a match where you expect there is going to be a lot of scores but it actually turns out to be rather close. 1-1
The computer's prediction: 2-1
- Craven Cottage, 15:00 GMT
It is a massive game for the Cottagers, who have suffered defeat in five of their last six games.
Fulham have have plenty of talent in their squad but it nonetheless seems like they could be dragged into a relegation fight.
Regarding Sunderland, well they are the unexpected success of the top flight season so far.
Their display in the two-all tie with the Gunners last time out was superb. We've not seen anyone else disrupt the Gunners like that this season, and they were more than a match for them.
The sensible thing to do to support the Black Cats here, because they are obviously able of disrupting the hosts up too and, the last time they were in west London, they beat Chelsea at the close of last month.
But I am not do that. Rather, I really need to continue opposing the away team with my predictions. I am taking a lot of credit for their good outcomes because they clearly love to prove me wrong.
Looking at the home side's home form, the sole side they have been defeated by is Arsenal. Marco Silva's side will be absolutely eager for a good outcome, so I am going to say they will secure three points.
The expert's forecast: 1-0
Olly's choice: I'm aware the visitors are performing strongly and additionally that Fulham are on a bad streak... but Fulham have still been respectable at Craven Cottage this campaign. 2-0
The algorithm's outlook: 2-0
- Anfield, 15:00 GMT
This is a tough one to predict. The Reds have suffered seven of their last ten matches in all competitions, but could they be among the teams who profit from the {international break|
