Brian Eno Encourages Public Help to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign aims to deliver assistance to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Unity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians this festive season. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it fails to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the reimagining of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the song's powerful central theme.
“It occupies a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti said. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we merit as a people.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The track was produced in the wake of a solidarity show held in the autumn. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The diverse array of performers featured on Lullaby features a selection of well-known figures from the industry. All were part of the September show, which managed to collect a substantial amount for humanitarian aid.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was produced by a group of music creators. The single features a combination of the original Arabic with contemporary English verses.
The group managing the project have clarified that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These resources will be allocated to initiatives supporting Palestinians through an established charity.
“We don’t have a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Of course, the more the merrier. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the area was described as its profound destruction, with a vast majority of infrastructure said to be destroyed or damaged.
“Given that reality, a handful of millions doesn’t make that much difference. But I think the significant factor is first of all spreading knowledge of this plight and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The song is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a popular streaming site from the 19th of December.
