Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's expected for concerns to be raised about his position following a further heavy defeat versus the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got a lot of support from above,” Slot commented.
“It's important to turn it around and earn three points of course but if you are coaching a team and struggling then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He noted, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy
When asked to provide details on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot said:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist for the squad and for me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me constantly of the day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this game yet so let’s see.”
Persistent Issues and Player Reaction
Slot lamented recurring failings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones remarked.
“It is not good enough. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a spell like this with results this poor.”
He finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“We’re going to try to get this team back to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and why it's known as the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
